Shannon O’Brien (freshman, broadcast journalism) said she enjoyed conducting the mock interviews.
“Everyone who attended seemed genuinely grateful for that workshop.”
The president of the peer mentors program who planned the event said that mock interviews prepared the students for career fairs.
“Having a mock interview and being asked questions that they aren’t prepared for gives the students a better idea of what they are up against with events like career fairs,” said Min Xian (junior, print journalism).
Students who attended the resume portion had the opportunity for their resumes to be reviewed and edited if needed, as well as received tips on how to make themselves stand out.
Paula Hermsdorf (junior, broadcast journalism) said that the event was beneficial to everyone that attended.
“It was a great program to help out with. I feel that it was very beneficial to everyone that attended. I can’t wait until the next one!”
Some students said that the event highlighted people’s passions.
“It was awesome to see people’s passion for improvement play out in the resume workshop, knowing we could help people further their career quests helped us unify as a program,” said Katrina Burka (freshman, advertising).
Lara Pasko (sophomore, public relations) said it was a great event because sometimes students get intimidated by an actual professional reviewing them.
“It takes a process that might seem scary to a friendly environment with people their own age,” Pasko said.
The mock interview portion provided a stress-free experience to the students while still teaching them important skills and tips that are needed when going in for a job interview.
Sarah Kunze (freshman, public relations) said her student status made workshopping the resumes easier.
“The students were more relaxed and confident than I believe they would have been in a professional setting. I believe they gained valuable experience and had fun along the way."
